Payroll Jobs See Gains, But So Does Unemployment Rate

Puerto Rico’s unemployment rate rose while payroll jobs posted an overall 
gain in August, the U.S. Labor Department’s Bureau of Labor Statistics 
reported Friday. The jobless rate climbed to 13.5 percent in August, up from 
13.1 percent in July.  It was at 14.2 percent in August 2013.

The BLS report said the number of people on non-farm payrolls increased 
on a year-over-year basis, rising to 924,100 in August from 919,900 during 
the same month in  2013. The jobs number rose from 912,400 in July.
