The question had taken on almost folklore status in Mellisa Sanchez’s
family. Like a precious heirloom, it was passed down through four
generations, ever since a summer day in 1949, when the little girl with
the big brown eyes and soft curls disappeared in Mayagüez, Puerto
Rico.
Santa Iris’ mother, Filomena Guzman, had one plea for her family:
“Never stop looking.”
No one knew where to hunt, or how. Until the younger generation
tapped into the riches of a technological age.
Mellisa, a Fort Lauderdale accountant, was poking around on a
popular genealogy website when she stumbled onto clues to the
disappearance that had haunted her family for 65 years.
With the click of a mouse, new details unfolded about the fate of
the toddler.
Had Mellisa found Santa Iris? Was it too late?
