NEW CUBA RELATIONS COULD BENEFIT PR

Cuban President Raul Castro

From The San Juan Daily Star:

Except for the tourism sector, the resumption of relations
between the United States and Cuba could benefit Puerto Rico
economically.

The Puerto Rico Manufacturers Association (PRMA) said
Washington’s actions should be seen as an opportunity for Puerto
Rico. PRMA President Waleska Rivera said the reopening is
important for economic and humanitarian reasons. She said her
group has studied the topic. “Among our strengths are that we
are bilingual and know the business environment in the United
States,” she said. “We have to strengthen our production capacity
to serve the labor market and our export culture.” During an island
Senate probe of the subject of Cuba in 2007, several economists
said Puerto Rico could benefit from the reopening of Cuba
because it could represent a $600 million market for exports from
Puerto Rico that could go up to $1 billion in 10 years.

PR PAYS FIRST VIDEO GAME TAX CREDITS

The first game to receive the incentives is Breach TD, a free-to-
play mix of tower defense, MOBA, and real-time strategy elements
from San Juan-based Space Rhino Games. To date, Breach TD is
also the first project to apply for the incentives, which offer
developers a 40 percent tax credit on salaries and production
costs (but can only be claimed for projects that cost more than
$100,000).
