Puerto Rico Statehood Admission Act Gains Traction

Resident Commissioner Pedro Pierluisi announced that fewer than two months
after it was introduced, the Puerto Rico Statehood Admission Process Act has
obtained 90 cosponsors. The bill, H.R. 727, was filed by Pierluisi Feb. 4.
“As I have said before, and as I underscore again today, every cosponsor of H.R.
727 is extraordinarily meaningful. Each member of Congress who cosponsors
the bill is declaring, in essence, that he or she will support Puerto Rico’s admi-
ssion as a state on a fast timeline once a majority of voters in Puerto Rico con-
firm their desire for statehood in a federally sponsored vote on admission,” said
